The Fools Tale

Not edited I swear

I blame Matt.  I mean I blame Matt for most things (and lets be honest, its normally his fault) but for this the blame is definitely falling on his shoulders.  Oh and Lee.  But he knows many ways to hurt me so it’s not his fault, no siree.

What am I talking about?

Well it seems that somehow I have been talked into playing AoS.  And not only have I been talked into it but I’ve been talked into going to events (Narrative ones only) and even playing the odd game at Warhammer World which sounds like quite a lot of work for me as painting is not something that I am super fast at – as you well know if you are a regular reader – and I don’t actually have a 2000 point AoS army having sold all my Skaven off a couple of years ago.

Which brings me by a convoluted route to the point of this post i.e. how can we get Mike to actually do a 2000 point army in the next 6 months?  Turns out the answer is actually pretty simple, turn it into blog content and he will have to do it out of shame.

I’m sure you are all familiar with the Tales of 4 Gamers type articles that started in White Dwarf and recently have been on the Warhammer Community site.  You know the sort of thing

  • Pick an army
  • So much to spend every month
  • Paint it before the next months money gets spent

Well this is what we are going to do.

So from July to December I will be attempting to get a 2000 point AoS army painted (nothing special on the paint jobs, simple base, ink, highlight) reading for some events next year.

Budget wise we have £100 to spend this month and then £75 for each subsequent month. Prices are as per the GW online store however you actually source the models, money can be carried forward or borrowed, etc.  Usual sort of thing.

So far we have the following folks involved

  • Matt – Ghosts
  • Lee – Tzeentch
  • Joel – Tree things
  • Conrad – Who knows?
  • Mike – Khorne Deamons

So with a bit of luck we should get some lovely pictures of boxes and then painted models up over the month.

Intention is to get a blog post out at the start of every month detailing what we have done and the pathetic excuses when it doesn’t happen, cause lets face it, we all know that its going to fall apart, certainly for me.  But try try try again they say, this might be the first time that one of these things works out 🙂

So with my £100 in my hand I hot footed it (ok we drove) to WHW and picked up the following;

  • Start Collecting Daemons of Khorne – £55
  • Blood Master – £15
  • Fleshhounds of Khorne – £30

These old things, had em for ages

And just like that £100 quid was gone.  Its not cheap is it this hobby.  Still Golf is worse.

Thought this was a good starting purchase as it gives me a little bit of everything and I can decide what I want to add on (Bloodthirsters!!!!!) from a simple starting point.

Paint wise its going to be Red Spray, Crimson Wash and drybrushing.  Pick out the details and hopefully be done.  This biggest issue of this will be getting into the mindset that having paint on them is good enough, they are never going to be in a painting competition so they don’t need to be painted as if they are.  Basing will be sand and tufts with the odd skull from the bits box thrown on to give some variation.

Right better get on, see you next month for an update, or follow along on twitter for some WIP photos
